ARMY SERVICE
A very rough outline of my army service is as follows. Dates are approximate as my memory has faded! Not many photographs as I tended to take them and not be in them!
Joined up in Londonderry Dec 1959 and set off for first posting. Arrived at Army Apprentice College Chepstow in Jan 1960 to start an apprenticeship as an Electrician RE but did not complete the course and left in early 1962 for 'mans' service at Aldershot.

1st Fortress Sqn RE, Gibraltar from 1962-1965
35 Engr Regt, Hameln, Germany 1965-1968
RSME (Tech Trg Gp) Chatham, Kent 1968-1971
25 Engr Regt, Osnabruck, Germany 1971-1974
12 Engr Bde, Barton Stacey, Hants 1974-1977
Military Works Force, Barton Stacey 1977-1981
HQ Scotland (Engr Br),Edinburgh 1981-1984
'Retired' May 1984 and stayed in Scotland

During the relay race some blighter put a cannon ball into
the bucket so that I virtually stopped on the spot without an arm!!!

and we first met when I was training as a Clerk RE
at Longmoor in Hampshire.

The sign says 1st Fortress Squadron, Gibraltar.
We had just moved from Buena Vista Barracks to Governor's Cottage Camp.
I had just been promoted to L Cpl.
